| Formed in 1994, the band debut
recording, the ambitiously titled ‘Unique’ demo, released in ’95 was
awarded Demo of the Year by National Radio in their homeland of
Denmark and got the band featured on the Comp album ‘Extremity
Rising’. Not long after the band find themselves a two album deal
with Euphonious Records / Voices Of Wonder, following talks with a
number of interested parties. The fruition of this deal led to the
band’s debut album ‘Scarlet Silhouettes’, recorded in Sweden at
Studio Fredman with renown Producer Frederik Nordstrom (In Flames,
At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity) and in fact included a guest
appearance by In Flames six stringer Jesper Stromblad. The
International response to the record is fantastic, taking the bands
profile to the four corners of the globe, with excellent reviews in
the likes of Terrorizer, Metal Invader and many others, leading to a
licensing deal for Japan. The band spent the the time between
records, recording bonus tracks for the Japanese release of
‘Scarlet..’ and a Mercyful Fate cover for the Listenable Rcds
release Tribute to the Great Dane, and Withering Surface turn out to
be the only Danish band on the compilation. . Tours with the likes
of Dimmu Borgir followed. The band then enter Studio Fredman once
again with Mister Nordstrom, this time assisted by Anders Friden (In
Flames) The result being ‘The Nude Ballet’ released toward the end
of ’98, domestically and early ’99 for the rest of the World, once
again leading to another Japanese licence and great press the World
over and even a spot on the biggest Festival in Europe at Roskilde.
The Nude Ballet was nominated for a Danish Grammy for Best Hard Rock
Album. Forward 2001, following all the line up hassles and free of
contract. The band write the best work to date by far, demos do the
rounds, leading to enquiries from many Labels, following extensive
talks the band sign a two album deal with fast rising UK Label Copro
Records, home to earthtone9 and Medulla Nocte. The result of this
relationship is the bands third record, ‘Walking On Phantom Ice’
This time opting for Berno Studio in Malmo, Sweden with Producer
Berno Paulsson (The Haunted, Deranged) it’s 9 solid tracks of pure
melodic metal, perfect in it’s execution. | |
